Now for something completely different….

I needed  a short break from reading political news and stressing about the state of our Republic, so I am re-reading various Terry Pratchett books. It was either Pratchett or Pride and Prejudice, and I don’t even have the emotional … Continue reading

Captain America: Civil War

Comments about the movie (which I loved): There is no film, no matter how good (and this one was), that Martin Freeman does not make better by simply being in it, no matter how small the role. There is no … Continue reading

Today’s post about culture.

The Martian: a review.

“The story is such a ripping good ride and so gorgeous to watch that you don’t merely want to suspend your disbelief, you want to tie it to a parking meter outside the theater and order it not to disturb … Continue reading

I hope to do a full review of it in another post, but I do think that every person who is of voting age and who did not vote in either of the last two elections should be dragged to … Continue reading

In the past week I have seen three different movies, with three different experiences. The first was Mr. Turner, the biopic about the painter J.M.W. Turner.  Even before the movie began, I knew I was in for a comfortable time.  The … Continue reading

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.

Note to self: in the future, do not EVER go see a movie in IMAX 3-D which contains huge freaking spiders. Curling up in a ball whimpering is really undignified.
